verva

Czech modern jazz quartet

„For me, the music of Verva represents an artful integration of Czech folk melodies and instrumentation within the American musical context. Cimbalom player Michal Grombiřík is a distinctive presence in the Czech crossover and jazz scene, whose instrument mastery and profound passion for music infuse Verva with remarkable energy and originality.“

Czech modern Jazz quartet

Verva is a jazz quartet from Czechia presenting original modern compositions with an ambient touch. Their unique sound is defined by the symbiosis of the cimbalom with electric guitar, double bass, and drums, combining influences of traditional folk music with jazz. The audience is often captivated by their dreamy, atmospheric style, reminiscent of artists like Bill Frisell and Mathias Eick. The quartet, Michal Grombiřík, Hynek Čejka, Daniel Kéry, and Tomáš Spiřík, gained wider recognition when they won the Best Original Composition Award for Apogee at the New Faces of Slovak Jazz competition in Bratislava in 2023. In 2025, they signed with Disrupción Records to record their debut album at Berklee College of Music. Their debut album, recorded in Valencia with guest musicians from Berklee, will be released this October.
